dc.description | Ecuador is a multiethnic and multicultural country that contains a huge variety of traditions and customs that makes up to its identity. In the Andean region are many indigenous communities, like the Salasaca community which has a defined ancestral identity and clear characteristics that determinate its importance in time and history. Each ethnic group has its owns meaningful and representative icons such as clothing, earrings, necklaces and fabrics. One fundamental component of a community is its origin, knowing its beginnings, allow them to know about their identity, not only like an indigenous community but like a differentiator from other ethnic groups. This project is looking forward to the conservation of the ecuadorian identity, for what is looking to build strong ties between Salasaca culture and contemporary fashion, with the objective of highlight their principal attributes and recover representative features of the ancestral cultures, cultures that have been disappearing with the pass of time. With the desire of create and produce fashion accessories and dedicated to the woman of Quito, “Quitena”, with this thought Pumaki brand was born. The brand take as reference the Salasaca culture and use it as a fashion way because of their universal language and for being accessible to a younger audience. For this was taken as basis the tissues of Salasacas and were identified symbolic elements that by generating representative patterns, served to use in the final development of the scarves. The Pumaki has an ancestral approach of the actual fashion tendencies, with this application they could have developed an attractive and innovative product able to tell the story while generating emotions on the users.
