Descripción : This study was conducted over a period of three months (March, April and May 2015) on the construction of a hydroelectric power station located in Río Negro belongs to Baños de Agua Santa, Tungurahua province. The study has, five sampling stations, located in strategic locations relative to the construction of the hydroelectric plant, of which 3 were considered as reference for its good state of preservation were located, where the ecological quality of water was evaluated Topo River using varying physic-chemical, hydro morphological and variability in the macroinvertebrate community. Once the data was collected and analyzed, it can be considered that the Topo river is a lotic system with good quality water as their physical and chemical analyzes; Temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, COD, BOD, nitrates, sulfates, phosphates showed normal variations in relation to the type of river and remained low in the current environmental standard. It is important to note that the analysis in this research show that the flow is one of the most influential environmental factors on the physicochemical and biological variability of the river, while hydro-morphological characteristics were affected by the project until the end of the study, which They were reflected in the values of QBR and IHF and the community of aquatic macroinvertebrates. In conclusion the construction of the hydroelectric project shows more affection to the quality of the hydro morphological factors to the physical-chemical quality of the water, it was found that the application of ecological assessment rates with aquatic macroinvertebrates as bio indicators
