Descripción : This research work deals the reality faced by women journalists working in their exercise in Quito. As it is a profession that significantly contributes to the development of social and cultural constructions of a country, its approach is made from a gender perspective. This research is based on an analysis of the construction of gender in historical and cultural context, to understand the development and advancement of the struggle which for years have been women in the world and mainly in Ecuador, his relationship with the media, also contains a study on the contribution of female journalism and reveals facts and figures with a gender perspective. Because gender gaps represent factors that influence access to jobs on equal terms, especially in the case of women, this research is based on sectorspecific analysis work of journalism, thus contribute strategy to progress in the eradication of violence against women in this profession to represent a niche unexplored. This work reveals that in recent decades has increased the presence of women in the labor market newspaper, however, representing a setback is gender violence, which are still undergoing and suffering, both companies media and in the face daily practice. This research fulfilled its main objective: to make visible the working conditions of women journalists and determine gender issues being experienced every day. For this, we applied the mixed research method, collecting, analyzing and linking data obtained through surveys and statistical tables that yielded numerical data determinants of the real situation of women journalists in Quito, and qualitative data were analyzed, achieved through interviews, life stories and testimonies with many of its protagonists. After confirming that the problem of inequality and labor imbalance persists, this study also revealed harassment and discrimination faced by women in media companies either by their age and mothers. In this investigation it is determined that 31% of women in this study group were required requirements related to age, marital status and physical appearance. Meanwhile more than half have been teased sexist, thereby influencing in a decisive way, the lack of women in managerial and supervisory staff in the eight major media in the capital, which reflects the average of women in positions power is 1.2 of 47 journalists employed, while 54 male journalists the average is 16.8. It should be noted that some of this discrimination is reflected in job opportunities in unequal conditions to 53% has been prevented from performing some coverage by gender character. Finally, multimedia products, the result of this work, proponents advances the struggle for equality and elimination of structural violence in media companies from the legal, social and economic.
