Descripción : In this study, the test was applied to 100 canine patients of different ages, races and sex, which live at 2800 meters high. The patients must be clinically healthy to be part of the research. These patients developed a blood chemistry test to measure the metabolite lactate in venous blood. The aim was to observe if there is any variation, compared with preset reference levels at sea level and to establish reference levels for high places. To measure this metabolite, a protocol was established in order to take and process the samples to avoid altered results. Patients were divided into 3 groups: according to the age, sex and level of lactate. The study took place at the All Pets Veterinaty Hospital, in 2010-2011. The results obtained by performing of pearson chi squera test showed no significant variation between age and blood lactate level. Neither does between sex and blood lactate level. However, in terms of weight, there was found an influence on the levels of this metabolite in blood of canine patients living on the 2800 m.a.s.l. Based on consuntation books and documents and using the statistical test of normality, it was possible to determine that reference levels for high places are higher than reference levels used for sea level, establishing them for 2.87 mmol\ l to 3.35 mmol\l.
