dc.description | Parent-child theory establishes parental involvement as a factor that can influence students academic performance. However, empirical evidence shows different results due to various factors such as the context in which the student develops and his or her gender. This study seeks to recognize whether parental involvement, measured as the use of school information by guardians to act on students according to their grades, affects the outcome of their efforts differently according to their gender. This hypothesis is evaluated using the information from the Third Comparative and Explanatory Questionnaire (TERCE), conducted by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 2013 to estimate different multilevel models, which allow us to conclude that no differences are observed in the academic performance of boys compared to girls when considering parental involvement. However, there are other factors that have a positive and negative impact on their academic performance, such as individual, family and school characteristics. | en |
