OBJECTIVE To analyze the efficacy of applying active and passive stretches vs. executing myofascial self-liberation using the foam roller in the hamstring muscles, in sedentary people who work in the administrative area in companies in the city of Quito. MATERIAL AND METHOD Twenty participants who work in the administrative area between the ages of 30 to 50 years, male and female, were included, who were randomly divided into two groups. Group 1 (10 users) of the company Electrycom, using stretching techniques. Group 2 (10 users) from the company Cartonera Pichincha, myofascial self-release was applied with foam roller, the two groups received the treatment three times a week for four weeks. The variables evaluated in the two groups in the pre-evaluation and in the post-treatment were: extensibility of the hamstring muscles, flexibility of the lumbar region and lower extremities, quality of life due to work repercussions (WPAI: PAI). RESULTS By measuring the popliteal angle test, non-significant results (p = 0.15) were shown in the increase in hamstring extensibility for the two lower extremities. However, the measurement with the straight leg test showed significant differences in the two extremities favoring the left leg (p = 0.01). by GC. In the increase in flexibility, significant intergroup differences were determined between the post-treatment of the SLN and GEX, favoring the GEX (p = 0.00). The results for the employment impact established a significant intragroup difference between the pre-evaluation and post treatment of the GEX, favoring the GEX (p = 0.01). CONCLUSIONS Myofascial self release with foam roller increases flexibility in the muscles of the lumbar spine, as well as in the lower limbs, and is also effective in reducing pain due to work repercussions and activities of daily living. The application of active and passive stretches are not effective in increasing the extensibility of the hamstrings during four weeks of treatment, aided in the reduction of pain due to repercussions at work and in activities of daily living. dc.description.abstractOBJETIVO Analizar la eficacia de la aplicación de estiramientos activos y pasivos vs la ejecución de autoliberación miofascial empleando el foam roller en la musculatura isquiotibial, en personas sedentarias que trabajan en el área administrativa en diferentes empresas de la ciudad de Quito.
