Descripción : Ketosis is a disease related to the energy deficit found in milk production cows due to the decrease of the bodys ketones in the blood, as an effect of the decrease in the consumption of dry matter and a higher energy requirement, in the transition period. The purpose of this investigation was to evaluate the effect of an energy diet (propylene glycol) about ketosis and zootechnical parameters in high-production milk cows in the puerperium in El Chaupi, Pichincha province. It was carried out on a farm dedicated to milk production, which manages a total of 691 cows, of which 20 pre-calving selected cows will be used through the inclusion and exclusion criteria, from the second calving on, which will enter the study on day 1 postpartum where 10 were divided to the experimental group and 10 to the control group. The two groups were sampled (ß-hydroxybutyrate, weight, and body condition) on postpartum days 1, 7, and 14 and the experimental group was given propylene glycol to the diet with a daily oral intake at 14:00 hours before milking with a 350 ml dose, on the other hand, milk production was measured in liters per day from postpartum day 1 to 14 in the two groups. The results are analyzed first by determining the data normality, where the data follows a normal distribution on all the variables, then we analyze the measures of central tendency, and to analyze if the data have changes in the different groups and samples, we used t-test and ANOVA (for parametric variables) and U of Mann-Whitney and Kruskal Wallis (used for non-parametric variables) resulting in a confidence interval of 95 percent, this way It was obtained as a result that the use of propylene glycol did not show significant differences (P 0.05) for any variable. In conclusion, the use of this energy supplement (propylene glycol) has no effect on ß-hydroxybutyrate, weight, body condition and milk.
