Descripción : Toxoplasmosis is a disease produced by a protozoan parasite that is present in warm-blooded animals, so it can infect various mammals such as pets and humans, dogs are mechanical carriers of this disease (intermediate hosts) . The present study aimed to determine the presence of toxoplasma in dogs that are cared for in a veterinary clinic south of Quito by means of a rapid kit using blood samples, relating the presence of toxoplasma with risk factors, such as type of diet, habitat and coexistence with cats. In the present study, the Chi-square statistical test was used where the total of dogs sampled was 173 of which 24 were positive to the test. Of the dogs that were sampled, it was obtained that 7.51 percent of the population consumed homemade food and a P-value of 0.011 was obtained, 5.20 percent corresponds to the dogs that live indoors and a P-value of 0.001, which is why it was evidenced that the type of feeding and habitat variables are related to the presence of toxoplasma, while 8.09 percent corresponds to dogs that live with cats and a P-value of 0.750 was obtained, which shows that it is not is related to this variable, as sex, age, health status do not represent importance for the presence of toxoplasma. These results show that toxoplasmosis in dogs can be related to the lack of cooking of the food or the fact that the food is poorly washed for the consumption of their pets and at the same time that they have free access to the street since consumption is easy of contaminated food making them more vulnerable to toxoplasmosis.
