Descripción : Historically, the rights of people with disabilities have been becoming a public policy issue in each country, since the United Nations Declaration of the Rights of the Disabled in 2006, it has sought to change the perception of people worldwide. people with disabilities, placing themselves in a social frame of reference, when before it was considered a stigma. Based on that, access to therapies and rehabilitation to improve their quality of life has been recognized among their rights, which is an important characteristic of the rehabilitation model of disability. This research seeks to deepen the issue of access to therapies, but from the point of view defined by the World Health Organization as “alternative and complementary medicine”. Alternative therapies seek the treatment of the individual taking into account not only their physical limitations, but also their emotional development and social participation. Due to the fact that the subject is in the process of development, it is mainly sought to recognize the current state of these therapies in Ecuador and determine the variants in terms of access and other important factors such as the debates that have been generated around them and positive and negative aspects of the therapy options to be investigated. In Ecuador there are 90 care centers for people with various disabilities that provide comprehensive care based on an alternative therapeutic approach, which are regulated by laws and State institutions governed by policies of international organizations. These institutions, both public and private, provide the service of alternative therapies of which canotherapy, equine therapy and multisensory therapy will be analyzed as a complementary alternative to the rehabilitation of traditional medicine.
