In palliative care exists a high rate of patients with edema. Edema in lower extremities affects the patient’s quality of life, experiencing the sensation ofheaviness and discomfort due to the increase in volume in the lower extremities. Objective: To analyze the effect of manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) in lower extremities on the patient’s quality of life in palliative care. Materials and Methods: Twenty adult subjects of both sexes participated in the study, who are in the palliative care, and have lower limb edema. The patients were distributed in two groups; each consisting of 10 subjects. The first group called “GC” control received conventional physical therapy, while the second group called “GE” experimental included DLM in its treatment. In all subjects, edema, quality of life and feeling of heaviness were evaluated before and after 12 treatment sessions. Results: Statistical analysis showed a significant difference between the GC and the GE by reducing edema (p equal 0.04), improving quality of life (p equal 0.001) and decreasing feeling of heaviness (p equal 0.001). Conclusions: Edema and the feeling of heaviness decreased significantly in the GE Group compared to the GC at the end of the 12 sessions of DLM. In addition, the quality of life improved significantly after the application of DLM.en
