In this project, the performance analysis of a multiple input and multiple output communications system (MIMO) using the medium quadratic error detector (MMSE) with non-square amplitude and quadrature constellation modulation schemes (NS- QAM) was performed. First, concepts of wireless channel phenomena and the most relevant techniques used for the analysis were described. Then, the NS-QAM modulation schemes were described. In addition, they were compared with the S-QAM (square QAM) schemes. NS-QAM is a more complex scheme which can improve the performance of a communications system, so it is considered for use in conjunction with MIMO techniques. The performance evaluation was carried out in terms of the bit error rate depending on the signal-to-noise ratio and parameterized by different parameters such as the order of modulation, the number of antennas used in the receiver or the number of users in the system. The results show that NS-QAM gives some flexibility of operation, therefore, it is possible to use different transmission speeds in the system. It was verified that when the number of antennas increases, the system loses diversity. However, the receivers performance and complexity are reasonable because the interference was eliminated.en
