| dc.description | Since 1980, community tourism has emerged in Ecuador as an alternative to be implemented by indigenous communities that have touristic attractions in their own localities. This practice considers the possibility for families to get involved in entrepreneurial projects. These activities allow communities to show the richness of their traditions, beliefs and customs to visitors, in this way communities benefit themselves. This research demonstrates the current situation of community tourism, its origin and relevance in Latin America, as well as its current status in the country. The changes and permanencies of this type of tourism will be addressed, as well as its offer, characteristics and problems. This research considers the perspective of the different actors involved. Also, specific cases of tourism projects, in three communities of the Sierra, are reviewed: San Clemente (Ibarra), Cariacu and Paquiestancia (Cayambe). A qualitative methodology was selected for this research, through the application of participant observation and interviews as the main research techniques. | en |
