Descripción : The manufacturing company where this project was carried out is a metalworking that has 30 people within its production area. It is located in Carcelén industrial, and has an assembly area in the Parish of Calacalí. Initially, the company was dedicated to the manufacture of office furniture, today it manufactures a wide variety of metal products; among them, bus stops in stainless steel, which is one of its main production lines. This project was focused on the improving of the assembly process of the bus stop production line, where product quality errors and materials waste were evidenced, and this things were affecting the productivity of the line. The improvement proposal was based on applying a engineering method within the assembly process, in order to create optimal manufacturing methods that would improve the productivity of the line, reduce existing materials waste and reduce the manufacturing time of the product. Through a study of times and movements, it was possible to study the methods used during the manufacture of bus stops. Subsequently, it was possible to standardize the proposed improvement in the process, creating standards worksheets and work item sheets. The improvement began with a Pareto analysis of the material waste that was most significant for the line and an analysis of the root cause of the problem. Based on this, a time study was carried out and the standard time of the assembly line operations and its capacity was calculated in order to know the quantity of the product that the line could produce in a given time. Once the times were calculated, a study of the activities of the operations was analyzed by analyzing the working methods through OTIDA diagrams, and subsequently optimizing those methods. Then, an improvement proposal was made which want to increase the productivity of the line, and along with this, a standardization of operations to have defined manufacturing methods and create control over the process. Finally, a cost-benefit analysis was carried out, where you can see an estimated savings that would be obtained in supplies, manufacturing time, transport and manufacturing errors if the improvement proposal was applied.
