Anthropological activities produce different types of wastewater, which is why it is necessary to treat them in order to keep our environment balanced. The main objective of the present research was to make a comparison between two types of treatment to determine which one was more efficient in terms of COD reduction in wastewater from the grease trap of a service station. One of the treatments was coagulation - flocculation using variables such as type of coagulant and dosage; with aluminum polychloride and ferric sulfate as coagulants and with dosages of 30, 35, 40, 45, 50 and 55 microliters (ul). Once the variable combinations were made, the most successful one was 35 ul of ferric sulfate, producing a 73.42 percent COD removal. On the other hand, electrocoagulation treatment was also applied, in which plates of aluminum and iron were used as anode and cathode respectively. The variables used in this case were intensity and time; 10 and 30 amps as intensity and 30, 45 and 60 minutes for time ranges. The most efficient variable combination was 30 amps and 60 minutes, which produced a 94.52 percent COD removal. After comparing both the physiochemical treatments of coagulation - flocculation and the electrocoagulation, it was determined that the electrocoagulation treatment with greater time and intensity achieved a better COD removal.en
