In previous ultrasound studies of the biceps tendon it was concluded that there is a significant difference when comparing tendon thickness of normal canines with canines presenting claudication of the thoracic limb, which indicates the importance of knowing the normal ranges of the bicipital tendon, because it is part of the stability of the scapulohumeral joint. On the other hand, it has been determined that the mechanical forces of every articular structure vary from one breed to another, because to the great variability in the conformation of each breed; This is why it is necessary to make a detailed study of the thickness of the normal tendon between different breeds. The objective of this study is to evaluate the characteristics of the bicipital tendon in canines of the breed Retriever and German Shepherd from 5 to 10 years of age, with weight between 30 and 40 kg., clinically healthy, with the use of ultrasound in Dogtor's Cat veterinary. A total of 34 canines were evaluated (17 Retriever and 17 German Shepherds); Before the ultrasound an evaluation of the biceps tendon was made, a detailed clinical and orthopedic evaluation was performed in each individual, excluding all those who presented some type of orthopedic alteration. With this, it was determined that the bicipital tendon thickness range for the Retriever and German Shepherd breed is 0.33-0.36 cm and 0.36-0.39 cm respectively; despite the identified variation, it is not significant (T-test = 1,1); finally, subclinical alterations were found, (12%) were identified as chronic tendonitis, (50%) tenosynovitis, (37%) partial rupture of the biceps tendon, (13%) the orthopedic examination couldn't identify, but can be diagnosed by using ultrasound. In conclusion, the present study indicates that there is no significant statistical difference in the biceps tendon thickness, and its variation may be related to the variability of random sampling, however the ranges obtained vary when compared with data obtained in other similar studies. In addition, ultrasound should be positioned as an early diagnostic technique for soft tissue disorders.en
