dc.descriptionThis research consists of optimizing noise maps through the use of Geographic Positioning Systems (GIS), this study was carried out in the parish Historical Center of the City of Quito. The systems of geolocation, ArcGIS and OpenStreetMap were used to elaborate the map of the sector, soon to be processed in the software of simulation of traffic noise CadnaA, the same that will be used to model the levels of noise pollution. Twenty-two short-term measurement points were established in sectors with greater vehicle inflow, thus allowing validation of the information provided by the simulation system, which should be adjusted to the reality of the parish. In addition, points of interest were established, which provided information on the involvement in schools, colleges, museums and hospitals in the sector. According to the analysis of population exposed to the noise it can be evidenced that the affected population of the total of 36610 inhabitants of the parish Historical center in the daytime period is of 27155 inhabitants that correspond to 74,2 percent of the total, the population that is affected In the night period is 21995 inhabitants corresponding to 60.1 percent.en
