Historically the processes of integration between states have been motivated by economic and commercial factors. However, Latin America and especially South America has sought a multidimensional integration that transcends these factors and enhances elements of a political and social nature. Along with the above, the orientation of the foreign policy of the States and the factors leading to a formed part of integration processes have been explained to a large extent by the general theories of international relations, such as realism and liberalism. The present research poses, through the Constructivist Theory of international relations, the importance of the conception of a state identity and concretely in the Ecuadorian case, of the political ideology and of the beliefs of President Rafael Correa when directing the position From his Government with regard to the Organization of American States (OAS) and the Union of South Nations (UNASUR). This analysis reflects the attitude that the Government of Rafael Correa has maintained in relation to UNASUR: of approach and protagonism. As for the OAS, a critical position has been developed on several issues. That is, Correa foreign policy has been different from UNASUR and the OAS and their respective agendas. Especially of constant criticism to the Inter-American System of Human Rights.en
