Descripción : The present study was realized out during the months of October and November of 2016 in two rivers of the high Andean zone of DMQ. The experimental phase was carried out in the Pichán (altered) and Alambí (conservation status) rivers Parish of San Miguel de Nono, located in the province of Pichincha. Three sampling points were considered in each river, with three replicates each, these replicas had five samples that were removed every 8 days. This study is based mainly on the influence of aquatic macroinvertebrates on the leaf litter decomposition process. To obtain this analysis we performed physicochemical measurements and a characterization of the anthropic activities of the area. With the established methodology it was possible to determine which organisms are involved in the decomposition of the organic matter of each river and what their functions are. Therefore a comparison was made between the two rivers, concluding that the composition of the community of aquatic macroinvertebrates is different. However, the groups that were registered as dominant in the two rivers despite being different fulfill the same functions of decomposition of the organic matter. The speed of decomposition between the two rivers does not have a significant difference; Contrary to their richness and abundance that present significant differences.
