This study was made to determine the prevalence of open bite in children from 6 to 12 years old, who come to Universidad de las Américas dental clinic. This research was performed in 150 children who were chosen randomly. To determine the prevalence of open bite, I have to take lateral skull radiography in each child. Later, through the over bite measure and if it result was negative and less than 1 mm, we can knew that the patient had open bite. Then I used cephalometric analysis of Steiner to know the relationship between open bite and proclination and recumbent maxillary central incisors, for this I used the angulation of SN with the upper incisor, which rule is 103 grades in the same manner to determine the relationship between open bite and recumbent proclination and lower central incisor, I used the angulation of L1 - GoGn whose norm is 90 grades. Finally through the SNA and SNB angles I can knew the relationship between protrusion and retrusion maxillary and mandibular protrusion and retrusion respectively with the open bite. The prevalence of open bite in this population was 23 percent; the frequency of this malocclusion was more in the masculine gender with 12 percent. The age that presented more cases of open bite was 8 years old with 6 percent. There were two conditions according to the dental inclination that were prevalent in the open bite: proclined central incisors both upper and lower with 21.2 percent and normal inclination of the upper and lower central incisors with 21.2 percent. Finally there was a greater ratio of open bite with maxillary and mandibular prognathism with 42.4 percent.en
