Descripción : Biodiesel is a biofuel intended to replace petroleum derivatives, and as a source of renewable energy with less environmental impact. It’s obtained mostly via chemical catalysis, an easy but high environmental impact method. Biodiesel also can be obtained by enzymatic method, but it’s difficult to control and costly because of the usage of enzymes, and with limited applications. The objective of the present study was to develop a method of biodiesel production using immobilized enzymes, on different reactor configurations, in order to increase the process efficiency. Three bioreactor operational modes were considered: batch, Continuous Stirred Tank Reactor (CSTR), and Plug Flow Reactor (PFR), the former with a one stage and two stages configuration, in order to determine which of them behaves the best for the enzymatic transesterification reaction...
