Resumen : Con la creciente problemática de la baja disponibilidad del agua en el planeta, se busca una alternativa de ahorro del recurso por medio de un método alternativo: recolección de agua de lluvia...
Descripción : Due to the growing problem of fresh water scarcity on the planet an alternative water saving method is being searched: rain water gathering. This thesis supports its objectives on the 25 percent saving of this resource expense specifically in the residences of the city of Quito. To achieve this goal studies about the nature and amount of rain in the northern side of Quito were made. Then, the results were compared with the national legislation limits to establish the potential water uses: irrigation and cleansing. The studies of feasibility and possible designs were based on the obtained data to accomplish a more efficient, cheaper and more eco – friendly system compared with the former installed systems in the city. Once installed, the system was monitored on a monthly basis on water consumption reduction. These results were used to make the economic study and the implementation efficiency report. The parameters of potential hydrogen (pH), water hardness and water settle able solids were also analyzed on the water samples collected from the system to obtain a suitable filter to improve water quality and prevent damage on the eco-sanitary system. The results were the 32.85 percent reduction of potable water usage thanks to the implementation of an eco-sanitary prototype which works with rain water. Hence, we can say that it is a successful and efficient alternative method to save fresh water which is a vital resource.
