OR 1.14, IC 1,083 1,207, ORA 1.07 IC 1,033 1, 049 P 0.001.
Descripción : Introduction In the United States each year 600 thousand people die from cardiovascular diseases, most of them coronary National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, Division for Heart Disease and Stroke, 2020. In 2019, 14 percent of adults were regular cigarette smokers. Additionally, smoking remains the leading cause of preventable illness and death in the United States Fernández and Figueroa, 2018. Physical exercise is a protective factor for most metabolic diseases. Methods An observational, descriptive and cross sectional study was carried out using the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System BRFSS 2018 database with 437,436 participants from the United States. For its analysis, the statistical package Rstudio was used, using the questions of the variables acute myocardial infarction, smoking tobacco and physical activity, which were answered with YES or NO. Subsequently, an unadjusted and confounder adjusted binary logistic regression analysis was performed to evaluate the relationship between tobacco use, exercise, and acute myocardial infarction. The Odds Ratio OR, Adjusted Odds Ratio AOR and Confidence Interval CI of 95 percent were used as measures with statistical significance and p value less 0.05. Results Adults who did not exercise and smoked tobacco increased the possibility of presenting an acute myocardial infarction by 1.14 times more. OR 1.14, IC 1.083 1.207, ORA 1.07 IC 1.033 1, 049 P 0.001. In the analysis adjusted for age, sex, race and ethnicity. Conclusion It was found that physical activity is associated with a lower probability of acute myocardial infarction in smokers, therefore it is recommended that smokers should implement physical activity to reduce the probability of suffering an acute myocardial infarction. Rehabilitation with physical exercise of people who smoke tobacco reduces morbidity with respect to acute myocardial infarction, which should be pertinent, in addition, for future research it is recommended to use more people who smoke tobacco and do physical exercise for a better relationship of the data as this was a strong limitation in this study.
