Descripción : Leptospirosis is a zoonosis of worldwide distribution caused by the bacterium Leptospira, and important for public health due to its high impact on health and economy. It has a greater presence in developing countries, tropical climates and humid zones due to the cycle of infection and the transmission route. Leptospirosis is a disease with a high incidence worldwide and endemic in Ecuador. The purpose of the study was to estimate the burden of zoonotic leptospirosis during the period 2010-2015 in Ecuador. An epidemiological analysis was carried out on specific morbidity and mortality for cases of leptospirosis using the country hospital expenditures existing in the INEC databases for the period of 2010-2015. The DALY Calculator was used to estimate the burden of the disease, taking as a source the database created. The incidence was 0.078 (0.073- 0.082) per 1000 people and mortality was 0.1447 (0.0897-0.2216), and 917 DALYs were produced during the entire period 2010 - 2015 that is 152.83 DALYS average per year, most of which occurs in the tropics of the country, with an economic loss of USD 988.727,74per year. The high burden localities were the provinces of Manabí, Esmeraldas, Los Ríos, and the cantons of Portoviejo, Bolívar, Esmeraldas located in the coastal zone of the country. In conclusion, it was established that the burden of zoonotic leptospirosis in Ecuador during the period 2010-2015 had a significant socioeconomic impact due to the tendency of presentation of the severe type disease, with a total loss of 5.9 million dollars.
