dc.descriptionSolar radiation in recent years in Ecuador has been increasing since 2010. High rates of ultraviolet radiation have been reported by the Metropolitan Secretariat of the Environment and the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (Inamhi). Excessive exposure to sunlight can cause serious effects at the eye level. Animals like humans can present external eye diseases to excessive UV radiation. The present study analyzed the relationship of three ocular diseases related to ultraviolet radiation through the collection of ophthalmological clinical data in Dogtor's Cat Veterinary Hospital. Obtaining 341 clinical records of ophthalmological patients that presented the following pathologies as a final diagnosis: Chronic Superficial Keratitis, Squamous Cell Carcinoma and Ocular Hemangiosarcoma. The data obtained were grouped to analyze their relationship, using the following variables: disease, age group, breed, size, ultraviolet radiation at the day of the appointment and radiation 3 months before the date of appointment. With all this, it was determined that male dogs (68,1 por ciento) of large breed (76,4 por ciento) that have an age between 1 and 5 years (72,7 por ciento) have a higher incidence in the presentation this disease related to exposure to ultraviolet radiation. The relationship between the different variables placed in this study are associated with ultraviolet radiation index from 2010 to 2017 and the importance of preventing exposure to dogs that are more predisposed to have ocular pathologies. Additionally, a p valor 0.05 was found in the Chi-square test, which allows to establish a relationship between the radiation index and the pathologies. In conclusion, it was determined that there is a relation of presentation of eye diseases with the variables put to study.en
