Resumen : OBJETIVO: Establecer la incidencia de mujeres de 65 a 85 años que fueron sometidas a una artroplastia total de rodilla en el Hospital Carlos Andrade Marín en el período de enero del 2012 a diciembre del 2017...
Descripción : OBJECTIVE: To establish the incidence of women aged 65 to 85 years old who were underwent to a knee arthroplasty at the Carlos Andrade Marín Hospital from January 2012 to December 2017. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This was a retrospective study, in which information was collected from the medical records of the traumatology service at Carlos Andrade Marín Hospital in the city of Quito on regards to knee pathologies from January 2012 to December 2017. The number of clinical histories analyzed in this study were 160 female patients according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. RESULTS: According to the annual data analysis, the largest number of knee arthroplasties were performed in 2017. A significant relationship was found (p equal to 0.011) regarding to the type of diagnosis and age in the group of women between 70 and 74 years old, which were diagnosed with unspecified gonarthrosis. Likewise, the most frequently type of arthroplasty performed in the hospital was the prosthesis with anterior and anterior-longitudinal approach (p igual a 0.049) in patients with a diagnosis of non-specified gonarthrosis. It was also found that patients with hypotension had a lower probability (p equal to 0.038) of being diagnosed with gonarthrosis. CONCLUSIONS: The incidence of knee arthroplasties in Quito has been increasing in recent years, showing that the largest number of surgical interventions were performed in 2017. The predominance of the anterior and longitudinal approach type was evidenced. Hypotension may be a factor that decreases the probability of developing gonarthrosis.
