Resumen : Superando incluso el periodo posterior a la Segunda Guerra Mundial, el mundo se encuentra experimentando sus niveles más altos de desplazamiento y migración principalmente debido a la guerra, la violencia y la persecución, ACNUR, 2017...
Descripción : Exceeding even the post-World War II period, the world is experiencing its highest levels of displacement and migration; mainly due to war, violence and persecution (UNHCR, 2017). For this reason, it is essential to study how states handle and interpret massive influxes of refugees in search of security. With this in mind and making use of a case study, the purpose of this research is to determine whether the human security of a specific focus group, refugees, increases in the presence of an open-door immigration policy applied by a state. The case study will involve a state which has received a massive influx of refugees during a limited period of time. The assumption would be, if a state is open to host a massive influx of refugees, then it is because it possess the capacity to provide high levels of human security to these people in need of international protection. This study will focus specifically on the case of the Federal Republic of Germany as the developed nation that has received the most refugees in recent years and for its application of an open door policy towards a massive influx of refugees (World Bank, 2016). Therefore, making use of the theory of societal security dilemma and statistical data in a five-year course (2013-2017) that denotes a before and after the application of the policy, it has been discovered that, in the case of Germany, human security of refugees has indeed increased under the implementation of an open-door policy.
