Descripción : In the development of orthodontic treatments, the most common problem that occurs in the patient is maintaining correct and adequate oral hygiene, which can cause various pathologies, such as periodontal diseases and gingivitis. The present investigation was developed with the objective of determining the prevalence of gingivitis in patients with orthodontic appliances attending the UDLA graduate clinic, through a qualitative, descriptive and cross-sectional survey and a clinical evaluation (Gingivitis index) from Silness and Löe) to a sample of 73 patients with orthodontics, the age, gender and time of treatment were determined, as well as the presence or absence of gingivitis. The results showed that 83.56% of orthodontic patients attending the clinic present gingivitis, with respect to the relationship of gingivitis in terms of gender: women (43.84%) and men (39.73%); age: from 15 to 19 years old (24.66%), from 20 to 24 years old (46.58%), from 25 to 29 years old (12.33%); treatment time: less than 1 year (6.85%), less than 2 years (32.88%), less than 3 years (32.88%), more than 3 years (10.96%). It was identified that young adults have a higher prevalence of gingivitis that the time of orthodontic treatment considerably increases the chances of the appearance and development of gingivitis, and it was confirmed that orthodontic patients attending the UDLA graduate clinic present a high prevalence of gingivitis.
