Descripción : Periodontal disease is an infectious disease that is caused by bacteria. It affects the tooth supporting tissues. Periodontal disease can be of two types: gingivitis and periodontitis. Due to its increasing incidence, at the present day this pathology is considered a public health problem. Objective: To know the pharmacological treatment prescribed in patients with periodontal disease who attend the Odonatological Clinic of the University of the Americas. Materials and methods: 63 records of periodontal treatments were collected using a data record sheet. The records were carried out by the students of Clinic 3 and 4 of the School of Dentistry of University of the Americas in the academic period 2018-2. Results: Of the 60 obtained, the majority complied tightly the attention protocols requested in the University, however a small amount showed no pharmacological treatment for periodontal disease neither before, during or after the odonatological treatment. The lack of medical indication would depend on the fact that the students do not document the medication in the medical records or because this type of treatment was not sent. It was also observed, that in most of the cases of periodontal disease treatments medication was used at least once and based on the literature the drugs prescribed were correct. Conclusions: The main drug prescribed in periodontal treatments is ibuprofen (400 mg), the most common analgesic used to treat the disease is paracetamol (500 mg) and the most common antibiotic used is amoxicillin plus clavulanic acid in a dose of one gram.
