Descripción : The relationship between craftsmen and professional designers in Ecuador is the main concern of this study. Its primary goal is to produce a connection between the craftsmanship and the design to encourage the interchange of knowledge through integrating jobs. A research formed by two components was used in this study. The first is qualitative, used during the field research (Stakeholder Analysis, Human Center Design), and the second has an exploratory character, used during the product development. Interviews to professional designers, with experience in craftsmanship, and to craftswomen of Zuleta town were done in this study. A rejection by the craftswomen of Zuleta to the designers was identified in this stage, due to previous bad experiences. As a strategy, under this situation, the creation of didactic tools were proposed and developed, to produce insights during the creative process, highliting the potential benefit that the design has in the craftsmanship. The dynamic use of each tool looks for to motivate the creative thinking, stimulating the creation of new designs through the interpretation of basic aspects of the design and the enviroment, being respectful with the culture and identity. Ultimately, this set of tools was validated with craftsmen and craftswomen of Quito city, where each one comments about how he or she would use the tools according with the environment and his of her necesities. The tools developed in this study may be considered as a general base for a first approach to work jointly with craftsmen, having the potential to be adapted to the necesities, language, semiotics of each community. Clearly, this promotes a better oncoming between designers and craftsmen.
