Descripción : Simple Polymorphism Nucleotide (SNP) are punctual variations of a simple nucleotide in the genome. There are polymorphisms involved with diseases such as Celiac Disease (CD) presenting several SNPs associated with this pathology. The present project studies the presence of four typical Celiac Disease (CD) polymorphisms in people diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). Ambiguous diagnoses and confusion exist between these two diseases and for that reason these two illness are normally misdiagnosed. This work tries to correlate the presence of typical CD SNPs with people who have been diagnosed with SII. A total of 58 samples were analyzed, of which 28 were patients with SII and 30 were from people without syndrome. To perform this experiment we used: DNA extraction from the biological samples, which were either blood or saliva, amplification of interest fragments using PCR's technology and sequencing of the fragment by Sanger's method. Fisher's exact test was used to find differences between groups. The presence of the rs6441961, rs6822844 and rs9851967 polymorphisms (associated with CD) were found in the study nevertheless they did not have statistical significance among groups. Therefore, it was not possible to establish that the EC related SNPs are present in individuals with Irritable Intestine Syndrome. However, the four analyzed polymorphisms are associated with immunological system genes, therefore the correlation with SII could not be discarded at all.
