Resumen : Actualmente en los zoológicos de Ecuador, no se realiza ningún examen clínico de las aves que ingresan a cuarentena...
Descripción : Currently in zoos in Ecuador, there are no clinical examinations of birds entering quarantine. This research paper was done with the purpose of doing an hematologic evaluation of some Psittacidae that are in Quarantine in Guayllabamba Zoo. This study was done in the Zoo with 23 Psittacidae from different species that were in Quarantine. With the clinical support this birds were tested hematological to discard some diseases like anemia, some chronicle infections and some other diseases. In order to reduce the stress in the birds, we proceeded to anesthetize them with ketamina (0.01 ml). Once we had that procedure done, we took their morphometric measures and weight. The samples blood was taken in anticoagulant tubes EDTA from the ulnar cutaneous vein. The measured parameters were: hematocrits, total proteins, leucocytes and possible parasites. The collected data has demonstrated that Aras spp. presented more common alterations in parasites and chronic inflammations. The Aratingas spp. and Pionus spp. presented some complications caused by stress because of the manipulation of the animals, other compilations were some infections, inflammations and parasites. To conclude, we can infer that the birds are in a constant stress process because of the bad manipulation of these animals. These birds are also dehydrated and they are in danger of some inflammatory process that can be discarded with some laboratory exams.
