Resumen : El shunt portosistémico se conoce como una anomalía vascular la cual comunica al sistema venoso con la vena porta, por lo que el flujo sanguíneo portal sigue hacia la circulación general sin ingresar al hígado...
Descripción : Portosystemic Shunt is known to be a vascular anomaly, in which the venous system communicates with the portal vein, and as a consequence the portal blood flow continues into the general circulation without entering the liver. This pathology can have a congenital or acquired origin, and can present an intra or extrahepatic location. The clinical presentation of this disease can vary, since it can affect the neurological, gastrointestinal and urinary systems. At Dogtors Cat Veterinary Clinic in Quito-Ecuador, a case of Extrahepatic Portosystemic Shunt was successfully treated in a 6-month-old Yorkshire Terrier puppy. The diagnosis of this pathology was possible thanks to the execution of an in-depth clinical examination, laboratory analysis, and the use of Doppler ultrasound for the exact localization of the vascular anomaly. The surgical technique chosen for the resolution of this case was the cellophane banding technique, which is one of the surgical procedures of choice worldwide, as it is a method that allows the gradual occlusion of the shunt in a safety way, compared to other techniques described for the treatment of this pathology. This case report includes several points, such as the description of the clinical presentation, the diagnosis and evolution of the patient with extrahepatic Portosystemic Shunt while implementing Care is report guide, as well as the analysis of the technique and the tools used for the diagnosis.
