Resumen : El aumento de emisiones de Gases de Efecto Invernadero produce un alza en la temperatura global…
Descripción : The increase of Greenhouse Gas emissions produce an increase in the global temperature. Ecuador generates 0.15 percent of the total Greenhouse Gases (GHG) emitted around the world. Nevertheless, even though the value of emissions of Ecuador is not significant, the country is a signatory to the Non Annex 1 of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, and because of this the country has committed to generate GHG inventories, as part of the different policies to mitigate the climate change. In Ecuador, there are mostly cantons dedicated to the agricultural sector, which do not have GHG inventories. One of these is Rumiñahui, which was chosen for the development of the present project because it is mostly agricultural and livestock (38.89 percent of its territory). The objective of this project was the elaboration of a proposal of GHG reduction produced by the agricultural activity in the Rumiñahui canton through the use of FAO guidelines. To satisfy the objective of the project, the GHG inventory of the agricultural sector of Rumiñahui was carried out, following the guidelines of the Intergovernmental Panel of Experts on Climate Change for National Greenhouse Gas Inventories. - Revised version in 1996, which divides the emissions according to the emission sources. The results of the inventory were 242.9 metric tons CO2-eq of GHG, of which 95 PERCENT were generated by livestock (enteric fermentation and manure management); Therefore, the proposal prepared for Rumiñahui focused, mostly, on strategies to mitigate the emissions of the livestock activity; while, for agriculture, these activities focused on adapting GHG emissions so that they do not increase in the future.
