dc.description | Dentoalveolar ankylosis in children is a disorder of tooth eruption due to causes not yet established and is clinically seen in teeth apparently infraoccluded. This anomaly shows dental pieces unable to remain in a normal position in dental arch of child; whose clinical characteristic is presented below the occlusal plane. Dentoalveolar ankylosis is known as the fusion of cement or dentin with the alveolar bone, as a consequence of the obstruction of the periodontal membrane in one or multiple root locations by mineralized tissue that causes the tooth - bone union. In order to analyze the prevalence of ankylosed deciduous dental pieces in children, 468 children aged 6 to 10 years were studied in a public school and a private school in the city of Quito, taking into account age, severity and sex. A clinical diagnosis was made and the information found was analyzed. As a result, 25 deciduous dental pieces were found, that is, 5.34% of the children. The prevalence of ankylosis was higher in the male gender, and was higher in the age of 8 to 9 years. According to the severity, 64% of the parts suffered mild ankylosis and 36% suffered moderate ankylosis. | en |
