| Descripción : | Tooth loss is one of the most common oral health problems in the adult population, among the main pathologies that cause major problems in the oral cavity include dental caries and periodontal disease, mainly related with the loss of dental pieces. Objective: To identify the reasons for dental loss in patients visiting the UDLA clinic. Materials and methods: This study was carried out from a sample of 150 adult patients who attended the dental clinic of the UDLA in the period of October-November 2017, with ages ranging between 18 to 70 years. The information will be collected in the integral Clinic of the University of the Americas by the researcher. To identify the main causes of dental loss will be used a survey in which will consist of 2 parts, the first will be used a dental record to signal the missing pieces and in the second part the patient will have to answer a series of questions, to find out what it was the reasons, because they lost the dental piece. Results: It was found that the main reasons for dental loss are caries, periodontal disease, traumatic injuries, orthodontic extractions and iatrogenias. Caries and periodontal disease were the most prevalent in the loss of dental pieces. Conclusion: It has been concluded that the main cause of dental loss is dental caries, followed by periodontal disease, of equal way was related to the age of patients. |
