This research work aims to determine the main factors causing the loss of teeth due to periodontal disease. The dentist must have the ability to relate systemic diseases or influential factors such as alcohol consumption, smoking and the use of narcotics that cause the loss of teeth. This study was conducted in the province of Pichincha, at the Clinic of the University of the Americas, a series of questions was prepared to 62 patients between 30 and 70 years of age. This study was descriptive; it was carried out through a survey where the main causes for loss of the dental pieces were determined. The following variables were evaluated: age, gender, educational level, current and past systemic diseases, tobacco consumption, alcohol, narcotics, etc. and number of pieces lost. After taking the sample, it was determined that 45.2% of the respondents had from 1 to 8 pieces lost due to periodontal disease in the range between 51 and 60 years of age in its majority. The level of education was also assessed, with the result that 37% of the respondents were of higher grade with a loss of 1 to 8 pieces, as well as the secondary grade, while the primary grade showed a result of 33.9% with a loss of 25 to 32 pieces. Regarding systemic diseases, the thyroid and diabetes (14.5%) are the most relevant systemic diseases, especially in women, and the vast majority were represented by the city of Quito. Regarding influential factors, we can conclude that the majority of respondents with 53% never smoked, while 29% quit smoking. Regarding the consumption of alcoholic beverages, 85.5% did not consume beverages, these factors are not significant and influential in relation to the loss of parts due to periodontal disease. Finally, it was shown that in our country there is a high rate of dental loss due to periodontal disease where variables such as age, educational level, and gender are reflected. Currently many people are unaware of the severity of periodontal disease much less the possibility of acquiring a treatment because periodontics is not a specialty that patients possess knowledgeen
