dc.descriptionPeriodontitis is a disease of the oral cavity that is intimately related to different types of micro-organisms where we can see an inflammation and an infection of the ligaments and bones that serve as support for the present tooth. Some characteristics such as: dental mobility, bleeding, periodontal pockets, inflammation, gingival recession and furcations. Objective: This study tries to demonstrate the existing prevalence between periodontal disease and diabetes mellitus in the patients of the diabetes clinic of Vozandes Quito hospital. Materials and methods: The present investigation will be of transversal type. Results: It was demonstrated that there is a 100% prevalence of periodontal disease classified by male gender with a percentage of 44.7% and 55.3% for the female gender. The ages of the patients were 25 years and older, which makes the periodontitis chronic in all these patients. The most affected gender was the female due to a small bias in the sample since 26 women were taken in the study and only 21 men, which would vary in the percentage of each gender. Conclusion: It was concluded that diabetes if significantly related to periodontal disease since of the whole sample taken 100% had periodontal disease of Moderate Localized type, with 23.4% of cases, localized, Severe with 23.4%, generalized, Moderate with 27.7% of cases, generalized, Severe with 23.4% and localized slight with 2.1% as the lowest percentage.en
