Descripción : The mandibular deviation is an anomaly that is within the classification of temporomandibular disorders, whose predominance has not been evaluated exclusively. Therefore, the objective of this study is to determine the prevalence of mandibular deviation during the opening and closing movements, with respect to the facial midline in men and women between 45 and 55 years of age from the UDLA Dental Clinic. For this, an inclusion analysis was performed thanks to the Krough-Paulsen temporomandibular anomaly test modified based on the research and a clinical analysis table that included gender, age, patient characteristics (partial toothless and dentate total) and the side to which the patient could potentially divert his jaw (left or right) by using a flexible millimeter ruler (mouth opening measurement) and a 40 mm segment of dental floss (side deviation measurement). The coefficient of variance Chi square was used together with the p-test of bonferroni to include the group of patients who could be excluded but relevant for the study. 100 patients were evaluated; 62% female gender and 38% male gender in ages ranging from 45-55 years, being 45 years the average age. The results showed the female sex as the prevalent in terms of mandibular deviation, with 45%, being the pattern of deviation more frequent to the right (30%) at the time of closure (43%) The prevalence of temporomandibular changes is quite common and it is very important to make a premature diagnosis in order to avoid serious alterations in the future.
