Breast cancer is the leading cause of mortality due to neoplasia in women, WHO estimates that the overall incidence is 99.4 cases per 100,000 persons. This cancer occurs when a type of breast tissue cell grows abnormally and uncontrolled. People with the C677T polymorphism of the MTHFR gene have a reduction of about 50 percent in enzyme activity; therefore, there is a greater association of the development of breast cancer. Method For this meta-analysis, 33 studies were used comprising 16 Asians, 11 Caucasians and 5 mestizos. This data was collected from in the Pubmed and Scopus database. The data was analyzed using the SPSS software and the forest plot technique. Results The OR analysis of all populations (32 studies) for the combination CC vs CT + TT generated an OR of 1.073 with a confidence interval of 1.0-1.1. While for the combination of CC vs TT genotypes generated an OR of 1.261 with a confidence interval of 1.2-1.4.Conclusions This research associates the risk of developing breast cancer with the presence of the MTHFR polymorphism. A meta-analysis was performed between 32 articles from different countries of Asian, Caucasian and mestizo populations and it was concluded that if there is a risk of developing breast cancer, however, there are other factors that may be associated with the development of this disease.en
