Descripción : In the present study, the association between the daily variation of meteorological parameters and air pollutants with health centers and sub-centers admissions for acute respiratory infections (ARI) were examined in Calderon and Cotocollao, sectors belonging to the Metropolitan District of Quito (MDQ) in the 2013 and 2014 years. The epidemiological information was provided by the Ministry of Public Health (MOPH), the meteorological and pollutants concentrations information was obtained from the REMMAQ stations of the Environmental Secretary. A time-series analysis of a period comprised between January 1st of 2013 to December 31st of 2014 was performed to control time trends and seasonality of the information to apply in the Exposure-response Function (ERF) methodology and determine the attributable risk (AR) of the morbidity of ARI caused by the exposure to the meteorological parameters and air pollutants, calculated from the relative risk (RR) obtained with Poisson regressions. Additionally, the analysis was focused on the effects in the different sexes and age groups included children under 14 years old, adults between 15 and 64 years old and adults over 65 years old. Furthermore, following the APHEA protocol, models with Poisson regressions techniques were built to evaluate the effect on the morbidity of ARI for an increase of the daily concentration of air pollutants in the different climatic seasons of the MDQ, including different time lags of 0 to 7 days to analyze the latency period of ARI. The concentration levels of SO2 and NO2 did not exceeded the limits established in any of the sectors and years studied. On the contrary, the concentration levels of O3 and PM2,5 did exceeded in high degree the limits established by the national and international legislations. Despite this, the results suggest that the concentration levels of all pollutants may have effects on habitants of the sectors Calderon and Cotocollao health.
