Descripción : Backgroud. Measures like the Semáforo Nutricional (SN), implemented in Ecuador since 2013, are oriented to give consumers user friendly information of the type of food that conform their diet. It is of interest to study the impact that this type of food labeling is having in the Quitenian population, and it is expected to be changing diets into healthier habits. It is our intention to observe the habits of the consumers in regard to SN, and will be the foundation to evaluate more effective strategies to implement this food labeling, which would benefit the population as much as the Ecuadorian state. Objective. The general objective of this proposal is to evaluate the use and understanding of the food labeling “Semáforo Nutricional”, and its impact in the diet behaviors of the population. Methodology. An observational cross-sectional descriptive analytic study of a representative sample of two districts that constitute Quito, located in Pichincha province was carried out. From each district, markets and supermarkets with the highest attendance of clients were chosen randomly, and a poll inquiring about diet habits and its relationship with food labeling was completed. The descriptive and inferential analysis was performed with the software SPSS v21. Results. 113 individuals were inquired, 62.8 percent were female, the age average was 38 years, and mean years of study of 13.3 years. 72.6 percent reported knowledge of the SN, by identifying it, and 42.5 percent refers on using this information always or almost always… ver archivo adjunto
