Cysticercosis is a parasitic disease produced by the accidental ingestion of Taenia solium eggs. It is considered the most frequent helminth infection of the nervous system and is endemic in several countries of Latin America, Asia, and Africa. Epilepsy is the most common neurological disorder in the world and is one of the most prevalent diseases worldwide. Additionally, the burden of disease quantifies the loss of health due to early death and due to the disability caused by specific disease. The objective of this study was to perform a comparative analysis in space and time of the burden of cysticercosis and epilepsy in the Ecuadorian highlands in the last ten years. This study was observational and a population of 6 081 342 inhabitants was considered with a total of 2796 cases of cysticercosis and 15 597 cases of epilepsy. The first step to carry out the study was to process the INEC database to separate the cases by province and age. After, the incidence and mortality of cysticercosis and epilepsy was calculated according to age and finally DALYs, YLDs and YLLs were calculated in the Ecuadorian highlands in the last ten years. To complete the study, the statistical analysis of the results obtained was made using lineal and Poisson regression. Both revealed the relationship between the year and province and the incidence, the number of cases, DALYs, YLDs and YLLs. In conclusion, this study showed that there are patterns of occurrence of cysticercosis and epilepsy in the Ecuadorian highlands in the last ten years.en
