Resumen : Los combustibles fósiles son de consumo masivo a nivel mundial, sin embargo, el uso de estos combustibles genera niveles de contaminación altos y consecuencias relacionadas al efecto invernadero…
Descripción : Fossil fuels are highly consumed worldwide and therefore of great importance. However, the use of these fuels generates very high pollution levels and greenhouse problems. For these reasons, the researches of the last decades have been focused on the generation of friendly fuels with the planet in order to reduce the consumption of fossil fuels. Biodiesel is a biofuel similar to petroleum diesel, but it has an organic origin so it generates less pollution to the environment. Biodiesel can be produced with microalgae because these microorganisms produce lipids suitable for the generation of biodiesel. In this research, 14 strains of Ecuadorian native microalgae belonging to the “Consorcio de Microalgas del Ecuador” were selected. These strains were reactivated due to they were conserved at a temperature of 4 degrees Celsius. Subsequently the reactivated strains were subjected to a pilot scale scaling in tubular V-shaped photobioreactors until reaching a final volume of 40 L at a cellular concentration of 1 x 107 cel.ml-1, an analysis of total fat was carried out to the biomass obtained from the different microalgae strains in order to choose a species of Ecuadorian microalgae for biodiesel production. The CMIE-B2-001 strain presented the highest cellular concentration at 20 days of cultivation and the highest percentage of total fat in dry biomass, so it was selected for biodiesel production. Cellular lysis was performed with osmotic shock with NaCl at a concentration of 1M and a microwave treatment at 5 min at a power of 2450 MHz. Subsequently, the mixture of two solvents for lipid extraction (Hexane-Ethanol and Hexane- Isopropanol) was analyzed. However, the analysis indicated that there was no significant difference between solvents because a P value of 0.158 was obtained. Then, a transesterification reaction was performed on the microalgal oil obtained from the different extraction treatments where a percentage efficiency of 65 percent was determinated.
