Descripción : BACKGROUND: Non-infectious puerperal mastitis occurs due to several factors such as stress, early weaning and inability to breastfeed on the part of the mother, causing pain and inflammatory symptoms that, without timely and adequate treatment, are associated with the risk of infections and breast sepsis. OBJECTIVE: To demonstrate the efficacy of manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) in patients with non-infectious puerperal mastitis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Twelve patients were recruited from the Padre Carolo Hospital in the city of Quito with non-infectious puerperal mastitis; 24 data between left and right breast resulted. Patients were between 18 and 35 years of age. The experimental group (GDLM), who received manual lymphatic drainage according to the Leduc method as treatment, were randomly assigned into three groups: the control group (CG), which received no treatment; And the experimental group (GMC) who received conventional massage in six continuous-day sessions. The variables to be measured were pain, amount of milk ejected and breast perimeters. Participants completed the informed consent form and were recruited by issuing a report and medical record. RESULTS: At the end of the sixth session, statistical analysis showed a significant decrease in pain after the application of conventional massage (MC) of (p equal 0.001); When applying manual lymphatic drainage (DLM), there was an increase in the expulsion of the amount of milk from (p equal 0.0003); And in the application of manual lymphatic drainage there was a slight change in the longitudinal (p equal 0.0009) and transverse (P equal 0.004) perimeters. CONCLUSION: The variables of pain and quantity of expelled milk measured had a significant change after the application of the treatment producing a greater reduction of pain in the GMC, as for the amount of expelled milk the production was greater in the GDLM and, for the values of Perimetry measurement showed increase in GDLM and GMC groups; Since the application of the treatments allowed the reduction of the obstruction present in the ducts galactóforos thus improving the filling of breast milk.
