Descripción : In Ecuador the crop of the fruit Solanum betaceum develop between 3200 and 4282 m. of height, with respect to the propagation of the production of this fruit, has been limited by factors such as lack of specific differentiation between varieties, low quality of fruit, use of inadequate varieties, besides, it is a subsistence crop and is cataloged as species marginalized, not considered in programs of conservation and improvement of plant genetic resources. With the objective of contributing to the clarification of the causes that may be causing this problem, the present study was developed to determine the best segregant of Solanum betaceum from the percentage of viability and pollen germination of five previously selected segregants, being evaluated in Granja Experimental INIAP - Tumbaco. These segregants were previously selected for their organoleptic characteristics and yield, the percentage of pollen germination was evaluated using a germinative medium composed of boric acid, sucrose crystal and tween 20, assessing their germinative capacity and pollen tube growth at 24 hours. In addition, the viability of the pollen was evaluated using acetocarmine dye determining the percentage of viability by pollen staining after 24 hours. Pollen from different segregantsevaluated were obtained from the day before the anthesis, in the anthesis and the day after the anthesis, which were evaluated individually on different days of storage (0, 5, 10, 20, 30 and 45 days) subjecting them to 2 storage temperatures (4 ° C and 22 ° C). The pollen obtained from the segregant GT33P2 of the day before the anthesis, subjected to 0 days of storage and temperature of 22 ºC generated the largest significant difference with the other treatments evaluated, making this the best treatment.
