Descripción : The mortiño (Vaccinium floribundum Kunth), is native to the Andes, there are 20 species in Central and South America, of which 3 have been identified in Ecuador. A morphological characterization of mortiño was carried out in the northern and central highlands of Ecuador. The study was carried out in three localities in the towns of San Pablo (Imbabura), Atacazo (Pichincha) and Quilotoa (Cotopaxi), which are at an altitude from 3300 to 4050 meters above sea level. We considered 36 variables or characteristics of the plant, where there were 19 qualitative and 17 qualitative, based on bibliography of UPOV. It was characterized 15 mortiño accessions that were characterized in situ in the localities previously mentioned. The obtained data that were analyzed in the statistical package RStudio, obtaining a Principal Component Analysis (CP) to establish the relationship between the descriptors of the plant, and Cluster or grouping that generated a Dendrogram to determine the grouping and relation between the plants of Mortiño in addition, descriptive statistics were used to determine the variance, standard deviation and coefficient of variation for each of the quantitative descriptors. The results of the study allow to conclude that within the grouping analysis, of 19 quantitative characteristics of mortiño plants, 2 groups were observed, the first belonging to Imbabura and the other group conformed by Pichincha and Cotopaxi. The most important quantitative descriptors based on the analysis of principal components were corolla width, calyx diameter, fruit length, leaf length - width ratio, leaf length, inflorescence length, number of flowers per cluster and depth of the calyx cavity, the most important qualitative descriptors based on descriptive statistics were: the growth habit of the plant, and all the descriptors of the flower and fruit. Three types of microorganisms were identified in the rhizobia of Mortiño Penicillium sp., Aspergillus sp. And Mucor sp.
