Background: Abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) is a frequent complaint in clinical practice, the importance of control of this disease is that it affects the quality of life of women and generates an expenditure of significant resources within the health service. The etiology of this AUB can be diverse and there are interventionists and conservative options for handling. One of the nonresectional methods used in Ecuador is the endometrial thermal balloon for endometrial ablation (ETBEA) (Thermachoice). The most common immediate complications identified inmediatelly after the procedure (48 hours) include pelvic pain, uterine perforation, bleeding, among others. The aim of the study was to identify the main indications for which endometrial ablation is performed by thermal endometrial balloon among women with AUB, and immediate complications of the procedure, at the Metropolitan Hospital of Quito, Ecuador. Methods: This is a descriptive, retrospective transversal study. It included women admitted at the Metropolitan Hospital of Quito in Quito – Ecuador between August 2011 and August 2016 (5 year period) that received the ETBEA treatment. Results: The main indications identified were endometrial hyperplasia 23.8 percent; endometrial polyp 23.8 percent; failure in clinical therapy 14.3 percent; AUB 14.3 percent; surgical failure 9.5 percent; failure of clinical therapy plus surgical failure 9.5 percent; active bleeding 14.3 percent. 57 percent of the patients had no immediate complications, 33 percent had mild pelvic pain and the remaining 10 percent refered moderate pelvic pain.en
