Several studies carried out in Latin America such as the case of Chile by Skarmeta (1982) and in Uruguay by Triunfo (1995) have found a positive relationship between the banking scale and its efficiency. This relationship was demonstrated through a panel data model, where the larger banks obtain a higher return compared to the other banks. A similar case occurs in the Ecuadorian banking system, which is currently governed by the Superintendency of Banks and has classified banks according to their scale into three categories: big, medium and small. Within the study carried out in Ecuador, in the last ten years (2006 - 2015), there is a positive relationship between its operational scale and efficiency. It will be demonstrated through a panel data model, and different banking indicators will be used; in this case, the return on capital (ROE), as an indicator of profitability and dependent variable within the model. On the other hand, there are several determinants for larger banks to achieve greater profitability such as liquidity, delinquency and operating expenses. This work shows the positive relationship between the operational scale of banking and its efficiency; Supported by the theory of several authors who have previously investigated banking and found similar results.en
