Descripción : The constitution of political movements in Latin America demands a broad debate on the theorization of party institutionalization. Structural duality in its conformation - movement/party - is the profile that has characterized the indigenous political organization in Ecuador. This has elucidated a scenario of reorientation of the concepts of democracy, autonomy and participation, which have been considered key elements to evaluate the institutionalization of political parties. The present study aims to analyze the formal structure of the Movimiento de Unidad Plurinacional Pachakutik (MUPP), by studying the rules and norms that determine the roles of its members and control bodies, established within its Organic Regime. It proposes to evaluate the institutionality of the MUPP from the dimensions of complexity, internal democracy and systematicity, and retake the debate on the application of concepts developed during a completely different socio-political context. In addition, the conceptual background of the reform of the statute, will be analyzed based on the Code of Democracy. This, in an attempt to democratize the political space from the normative sphere, revealed the distance between representative democracy and the initial political approach of the indigenous organizations, which is strongly linked to cultural and identity factors. This study emphasizes the historical conformation of the movement, recognizing the importance of its heterogeneity when analyzing it. This implies a review of the application of the statute in the internal life of the party, since, what is typified in order to specialize the organization chart or to establish criteria of electoral competition and conflict resolution, is often not fulfilled in practice. It seeks to reflect on the bias that exists between formal and practical, and to elucidate new ways of agreeing principles for political participation that are more inclusive with the reality of the indigenous movement
