Resumen : El presente estudio tiene como objetivo analizar el impacto del stock de capital público sobre el nivel de producción...
Descripción : The objective of this paper is to analyze the impact of public capital stock on the level of production. Public capital stock is measured by public investments in infrastructure. Further, the paper studies the impact of public capital on the marginal product of private factors of production in the manufacturing sector of Ecuador, in the period 2000, 09.The approach involves estimating a panel data model of the production function trans logarithmic. Accordingly, the individual factors effects on the production of the manufacturing sector and the interactions between them were found through this function. The traditional factors of production (private capital and labor) were included and the public capital stock was incorporated through the perpetual inventory method estimation. The results show that the increase of public capital stock had a positive effect on manufacturing output. However, it decreases the marginal productivity of private capital, meaning that the public capital stock does not create incentives for the private sector to increase capital investment. Moreover, it was observed that increasing private capital, the productivity of labor decreases, while increasing the stock of public capital, the productivity of labor increases. Additionally, policy recommendations are given in order to aid the manufacturing sector. To conclude, comments on the effect of expansionary fiscal policy on the manufacturing sector of Ecuador are included.
